Mumukshu gave us an awesome rundown of the plugin and its core features. Beat Lab Artist Series Recap: Katherine Redlus

Beat Lab Artist Series Recap: Katherine Redlus This past weekend we had an another Artist Series workshop brought to you by Beat Lab Academy, featuring professional Harpist Katherine Redlus. Katherine went through the presentation by giving a bit of history leading up to today. She fell into Harp like many young musicians do with their respective instruments, an authority figure or guardian urges you into the practice. In Katherine’s case, it was her grandmother who wished to have a Harp player in the family so Katherine was granted that fate. Fast forward to high school, Katherine had persisted with the instrument and was quickly outpacing her peers. By the time Katherine headed off to undergrad university she had performed and mastered nearly every classical piece of music written for a Harp; that’s why she sought new frontiers to explore in college. Ableton Live gave her the new sense of direction …

Arturia Product Demo Recap: The New Gear is Phenomenal

Arturia Product Demo Recap: The New Gear is Phenomenal February 24th Arturia hosted a workshop here at Beat Lab Academy and showed us a few of their new products from their lineup, with a heavy focus on the Minibrute 2 and Minibrute 2S. What we saw was AWESOME. They built both of these to deliver power, and when used together they become exponentially cooler. The Minibrute 2 is an update of the original Minibrute, one of the most renowned analog monosynths of the 21st century. The Minibrute was famous for its size, price, and punch that it packed for the whole package. The Minibrute 2 delivers on the hype of its predecessor’s legacy and does so in style. This time around Arturia opted for the same looking dark plastic as the original but added wooden side panels, the result is a well-built synth that feels solid without feeling too heavy. Also new to this …

The event was titled “Indie Electronic Feels” to reflect the indie electronic leanings of each act, but the similarities ended there. Each performance was as unique as the next and they all brought their very own style to the stage, this is a recap of the night. 1. The Water Company   Alex Penate opened up the night with a solo act that expanded beyond the confines of Lot 1 Cafe’s stage, it was trippy, man. With nothing but his Ableton Push, laptop, and a microphone Alex put on the mask seen in the photo and became The Water Company. His set floated through experimental hip-hop beats (some made …
