Accusonus Beat-Making: Beatformer and Regroover Pro

Accusonus Beat-Making: Beatformer and Regroover Pro Today we are going to go over two awesome plugins from Accusonus, Beatformer and Regroover Pro. Both plugins are designed to interact with your drums – Beatformer as an all-in-one drum processor and Regroover Pro as a complex sampler. Continue below as we go over the workflows with each and what makes them unique. Beatformer Beatformer is Accusonus’ all-in-one solution for your drum buss. It boasts “a dozen different processors under the hood” and allows control over them with a simple user interface and the ability to dial in a combination of tones. This can be seen as a pro or a con here, the terms are likely ones you’ve heard before but don’t accurately describe what happens when using them (except for Boom). Otherwise, Accusonus knocked it out of the park here for users by making the controls so simple yet powerful. Each knob has a finite amount of …

Feel Your Sound: Sundog Song Studio and Melodic Flow

Feel Your Sound: Sundog Song Studio and Melodic Flow Today we’re reviewing an amazing pair of chord and scale composition tools from Feel Your Sound – Sundog Song Studio and Melodic Flow. We reached out to Hauke, the developer of this software and asked to give the technology our take. After some extensive time spent with each tool we have a lot of insight to share, below we will go through how to use each and share with you the benefits and drawbacks (if any) of both programs. Sundog is especially complex if you want to dive into its abilities so we’ll give you the rundown on the basic workflow. Sundog Song Studio Sundog Song Studio is a standalone all-in-one composition tool. You can write melodies, basslines, chord progressions, and even drumlines. Initially, the prospect of using a standalone software to generate ideas sounded tedious but Hauke programmed a solution to …

How To Get The Perfect Amount Of Bass When Mastering Audio

How To Get The Perfect Amount Of Bass When Mastering Audio We’re happy to announce a new partnership with MasteringtheMix, a website with amazing audio plugins. When Tom reached out to us we were excited to see what his plugins could offer. Levels, Animate, Reference, and Expose all have proved to be super helpful in the mixing and mastering process. We’re featuring an article written by Tom guiding you in how to achieve an awesome bass balance while mastering. He uses a few of his own plugins as tools and we would highly suggest trying them out. Read below!     This is where so many potentially awesome tracks fail. Too much bass and your track will sound bloated and lack clarity. Not enough bass and your track will sound weak. I have a process that helps me set the perfect amount of bass for my clients every time. Since …

How Side Gigs Can Work for Artists

How Side Gigs Can Work for Artists Being an artist is often stereotyped as a struggle between earning a living and staying true to your dreams. It’s easy to become discouraged and find yourself on paths that diverge from your artistry. However, side gigs can offer a perfect balance between profit and artistry. Working from Home Home can be a sanctuary from the outside world. For an artist, it can be the ideal environment to spark creativity and imagination, plus it can boost productivity. Of course, home can also be full of distractions, whether that’s interruptions or television. Given that, it’s a good idea to set up a home office. Choose a location away from noisy areas and distractions that has enough space for a desk and equipment like a printer and computer. Depending on your particular focus, you will also need a dedicated table. Be sure to minimize clutter …

How To Be Prepared When Performing

How To Be Prepared When Performing Playing a live show can be a really stressful situation depending on the type of person you are. The sound is deafening, there’s a crowd screaming expecting a certain level of entertainment from you, plus there are bright lights everywhere and unless you have the zen qualities of monk levitating on Mount Kailash, you might have a hiccup in your performance here and there. With that being said, the skill of performing can be honed the same way producing can be. Here are 5 things to keep in mind to help your next performance go as smoothly as possible. 1: Know Your Crowd/Venue and Figure Them Out. Don’t even start preparing your set until you’ve got this figured out. It seems simple but sometimes you need to really think about it. When you first start DJing or playing shows with your band, you need …

Wheel Method – A Different Way to Visualize Rhythm from John Varney

Wheel Method – A Different Way to Visualize Rhythm from John Varney How many of you have ever practiced your rhythm before? Drummers may be nodding but if you aren’t a drummer then you most likely haven’t practiced rhythm or looked at a rhythm sheet with the notation on bar lines. Typical rhythm notation doesn’t stray far from the classical method of notes on staff lines, there are pros and cons to this method. Pros include generalization from sight reading musical notation and familiarity but the format doesn’t often account for polyrhythms in a meaningful or clear way. This can be frustrating. The ‘Wheel Method’ described by John Varney in a recent TEDEd video attempts to mediate that issue with a layered visual approach to rhythm notation. The Wheel Method involves using concentric circles to represent multiple instruments and their respective timing. Like a clock, imagine a hand or needle spinning …
