Split Stereo Panning – FREE Rack from AfroDJMac

Split Stereo Panning – FREE Rack from AfroDJMac AfroDJMac just released a FREE Ableton Rack for taking advantage of True Stereo Panning in Ableton Live 10. This option is new to Ableton Live, meaning that stereo audio can now be truly split to either side. Previously in Live 9, what we had was not true stereo panning. If you had stereo audio and panned to either side on a channel you would lose material from the opposite side. Now you can send left to right and vice versa. We’re quite thankful for all the updates Ableton made for the newest version of Live and this is a small but powerful tool.     All you have to do is right-click on the pan control to switch between Stereo and Stereo Split. Watch these videos below to learn more about Ableton 10’s Stereo Split Panning abilities and the benefits of throwing …

The Missing Link – Bringing Ableton Link to Hardware Devices

The Missing Link – Bringing Ableton Link to Hardware Devices Knobcon 2018 just happened recently in Chicago, Illinois where people gathered to share their latest and greatest in the world of hardware synthesis and experimental music-making tools. Ed Guild of Happy Circuit shared his incredible creation – The Missing Link which is a box that lets you connect your analog gear to other Ableton Link compatible devices. What’s especially useful about this device is that it operates over Wi-Fi so you no longer have to worry about all those cables clunking up your workflow. We were fortunate enough to get some questions answered by Ed, our interview is below! su_divider top=”no” divider_color=”#d2d2d2″ size=”1″ 1. Your website notes that you’ve DJ’d, VJ’d and been involved with bands since 2001, has any of that time been dedicated to working in Ableton Live? _ I started out VJing in a live electronic dance …

Speektra – Retro Chipspeak Synthesizer

Speektra – Retro Chipspeak Synthesizer PureMagnetik recently released Speektra, “a speech simulation synthesizer based on the VOSIM method developed by Kaegi and Tempelaars in the 1970s. It uses bursts of pulses with formant characteristics to synthesize robotic vowel sounds.” VOSIM stands for Voice Simulation and is based on the idea that by employing repeating tone-burst signals of variable pulse duration and variable delay, a sound output of high linguistic and musical expressive power can be obtained according to the Journal of the Audio Engineering Society, June, 1978.  The user interface is very clean and quite easy to get started with right away. The controls are simply allowing for synthesis shaping through Attack, Decay, Sustain and Release. We are also given a knob for each vocal wave. Puremagnetik implements VOSIM in a more elaborate way by allowing you to modulate the shapes of your sounds between vowels and waveshapes. You can also choose your voice register (Bass to …

Beat Lab Reviews – Fresh Tracks of the Week September 14, 2018

Beat Lab Reviews – Fresh Tracks of the Week September 14, 2018 Worldy atmospheres, funky bananas, nostalgic utopias, trippy lo-fi rhythms, and minimalist house tracks with smooth rhymes are what is in store for this week’s Fresh Tracks. Take a listen below and read while you’re at it! su_divider top=”no” divider_color=”#d2d2d2″ size=”1″   Mazoulew – Pangea The title track from Mazoulew’s new Pangea EP is a four-minute atmospheric adventure that takes the listener to soaring highs and kickin’ lows. Mazoulew strikes a balance between peaceful and chaotic with the syncopated percussion patterns throughout the track. While unique in its own right the track harkens to artists in similar soundscapes – Bonobo and Four Tet are two that come to mind. A lush vocal chop echoes in the background while beautifully layered synths and bells grace our ears with melody. Finally, the guiding bass sitting below cradles us into a state of bliss. …

Hybrid Kicks – 67 Free Kick Samples Made from the Body

Hybrid Kicks – 67 Free Kick Samples Made from the Body Max Christensen has released Hybrid Kicks, a sample pack containing 67 kick samples originally recorded from body thumping sounds. The sound source is the body, that’s pretty cool. Max grabbed a microphone, prepped for recording, then thumped away at his chest to record the samples. He then processed each sample to give it a modern sound and split them up into four categories: Low Thumb, Punchy, Sustained, FX. Here’s what Max said about the process: I recorded various body hits, adjusted the tails and then basically went crazy with the processing. First I added the subharmonics with the free subharmonic generator Bark of Dog because any drum will have a resonating frequency and a chest pound is just way too short. Then I would equalize, saturate, and compress like crazy in various orders. Sometimes I would apply double compression, double saturation, double …
