Push is a new type of instrument with a definite learning curve. The aim of this class is to you with an in-depth understanding of how to use Push for recording, programming, editing, mixing, mastering, and performing your music. During this six-week course, we will learn the tools, techniques, and tricks required to master Push.
PUSH01 – Drum Mode
Learn the foundational elements of rhythm and sequencing, as well as editing and recording your own drums using custom sounds and built-in kits. Explore the expressive possibilities of Push using 16 Velocities Mode and 64 Pad Mode.
PUSH02 – Playing & Controlling Instruments
Push opens up a new, infinite world of diatonic composition! Push allows us to play in key using its isomorphic pad layout. Learn how to create chords, basslines and melodies using Push’s Melodic 64 Mode, Melodic Sequencer, and its hybrid mode— Melodic Sequencer+32 Notes.
PUSH03 – Sampling
Explore the creative possibilities Push provides as a sampler. Learn to chop, mangle, stretch, and sequence samples through Push’s multiple sampling modes. Dive deep into controlling, editing, and chopping your samples directly through Push. Since its upgrade, Push has become the ultimate sampling machine for any style of music, from hip-hop to house!
PUSH04 – Mixing with Push
After creating your tracks’ musical elements, it is time to mix them. Learn how to use Push as a modern mixing console; load effects, plugins, and routings— even side chain— directly from Push. Master Push’s Mix Mode.
PUSH05 – Live Performance
Study and practice live performance as a creative medium, or for the stage. Explore Push’s Session Mode, techniques for the stage, finger drumming, recording instruments, and session planning.
PUSH06 – What’s Next
Student Performances/Listening Session. Tackle more advanced approaches to using Push, custom scripts, Max for Live, and User Mode.
